A main concern for most aging women is osteoporosis. A troubling trend among these women (aged 45-65) is that they generally spend an hour on the treadmill, sometimes stretch, and then go home. If they do venture out on the floor, they usually push minimum weight for maximum reps. Despite all this energy, they are not effectively addressing the critical issue of bone density.
While trainers can’t alter a woman’s genetic predisposition for osteoporosis, they can help her fight bone degradation. By teaching this susceptible group the importance of strength training, fitness professionals can help them maintain bone density well into the future. continue »

In the spirit of bar raising (get it?) we have some new BPURE fan pics courtesy of Dana Posey . And don’t be surprised if Dana pops up a couple more times within the site…
These pics demonstrate the caliber and fun we know you have when you throw on one of our bpure shirts. Send in your bpure fan pics today to bwalters@bpure.org for a shot on bpure.org or put them up on the FB Fan page yourself. We know you’ve got the goods-it’s time to show off! Dana sets the standard high but what’s wrong with a little friendly competition?!

A lot of people think body builders and gymrats are nothing but “meatheads.” And along comes http://www.bpure.org…an amazing group of people who celebrate the positive aspects of being a fitness freak. Yeah, we love lifting weights and we love looking good, but we also love competing and striving to reach new goals. We love doing our best, and when our best isn’t good enough, we love grinding to get better. bpure is an organization that fosters this supportive attitude. It reminds people that not everyone who lives in the gym is superficial or a steroid shooter. It shows how much we love ourselves, our bodies, and our sports. It proves that we do want to help each other get better, stronger, faster-that’s what makes great competition. The fact that bpure is also eco-friendly is a no-brainer. We run and bike and climb outside. We have to make sure that there will still be a clean and safe environment for us to play with our kids in the future. I’m thrilled to finally have a group that epitomizes the values of a true athlete. Now get out there and LIFT!

I was born in Wilimington, Delaware in 1968 and spent most of my life in the Tri-state area. I had 3 older brothers that were into sports (mainly wrestling) but I myself was never athletic. I got married at age 24 and had 2 children within the first 3 years of marriage. I battled with my weight fluctuating for several years until one day I realized I was at my peak weight of about 170lbs. I was looking in my closet for something to wear and realized I was going to need to go shopping for larger clothing. That was the beginning of my turning point.
