I was born in Wilimington, Delaware in 1968 and spent most of my life in the Tri-state area. I had 3 older brothers that were into sports (mainly wrestling) but I myself was never athletic. I got married at age 24 and had 2 children within the first 3 years of marriage. I battled with my weight fluctuating for several years until one day I realized I was at my peak weight of about 170lbs. I was looking in my closet for something to wear and realized I was going to need to go shopping for larger clothing. That was the beginning of my turning point.

Born in Kansas City, Kansas, Kamila Cardenas was raised in a diverse household. The product of a union between her Venezuelan father and her mother who hails from Kansas, Kamila remembers embracing her multiplicity through dance. In 2000 she became a ballroom dance instructor, forming what would soon prove to be a passionate commitment to the art of dance. Buoyed by the intrinsic reward she found successfully transforming students with virtually no knowledge of ballroom dance, Kamila decided to broaden her dance horizons. She left the ballroom world to actively pursue other forms of dance: classical ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, and hip hop, even studying belly dancing on her own.

My name is April Slutzky and I’ve always dreamt of competing in figure and fitness competitions. My love for sports and competition began at a very young age and has stayed with me my entire life. The work ethic I developed as a competitive gymnast pushes me to set new goals for myself as a figure competitor. My first competition was the 2008 NPC Maryland State/East Coast Classic where I placed 1st in the Maryland Tall Class Division and 3rd in the East Coast. Having success at my first event is a huge confidence builder and I’m training harder then ever for the upcoming Junior USA Nationals in Charleston, SC. My goal is to hopefully earn my pro card within my first year of competing but, either way, I’m hooked on this sport. I feel an incredible sense of satisfaction and accomplishment by dedicating myself to a healthy lifestyle, one that helps reshape my mind, body and spirit.
